Adsense Key Words

For the ones among us who've used it, Google's Adsense system is an interesting way to advertise. Similar to the placements on Google itself, ads are triggered via 'Adsense keywords'. The ads themselves are the little things that pop up (generally to the right) while you're searching on Google. If clicked, they take you to the site for the advertised product.

However, Adsense ads aren't the ones on Google itself. Websites and Publishers which have signed up with the adsense program are the ones displaying these particular ads.

Generally, they also are triggered by search keywords, ultimately linking people to websites that are related to the topic of the website they're looking at. For example, a website that reviews science fiction or fantasy novels might have ads that link to another site that sells fantasy or sci-fi related items and collectibles online.

Basically, your cut is a percentage (users guess anywhere from 5-50% of the advertisers cost) whenever the system shows people were taken to the linked site via ads placed on your site. The really great thing - Google possesses a long list of advertisers for almost every topic you can think of.

Once you've signed up and Google identifies the appropriate Adsense keywords to 'stick' on your site, you can start making money without really doing anything. Of course, there is the small matter of getting traffic and people that will actually be clicking on your site's ads; otherwise, you won't get anything. Big surprise.

So then, why all the fuss about keywords? The answer to this one is simple. Advertisers bids for each search phrase varies incredibly. If you've done any amount of searching, you've likely stumbled across talk of the mesothelemia related websites. Lawyers were bidding up to $100 - per click.

Naturally, publishers with adsense sites saw a major opportunity. Build websites focusing on the mesothelemia keywords and bang - they'd be getting 5-$50 a click for themselves. Of course, this was not the case. There are many reasons why this didn't happen, but we won't get into that now.

What we will say is this: they 'key' to great 'keywords' is finding topics that are heavily searched with minimal competition. Additionally, these keywords must trigger advertisers who are willing to share their valuable clicks with you, the publisher.
